OpenAI Adds a $125-Per-Seat Tier to ChatGPT Business
Premium seats cost five times a Standard seat and remove the five-hour usage limit. It is almost certainly not for you — but the same week free chats went unlimited, the top of the ladder got a lot more expensive, and that shape is worth understanding.

On 10 August, OpenAI introduced Premium seats for ChatGPT Business: 5x the usage of a Standard seat, no five-hour usage limit, and predictable weekly resets.
The pricing:
- Premium: $125 per user per month, or $100 billed annually
- Standard: unchanged at $25 per user per month, or $20 billed annually
Workspaces can mix both seat types. OpenAI is also running an introductory offer — the first 10,000 eligible Business customers get $100 in workspace credits per Premium seat, up to five seats, with the promotion closing on 20 August.
What it means for a solopreneur
Directly, very little. Premium seats are aimed at teams where a few people are running heavy, sustained workloads, and a one-person business almost never fits that profile. If you're solo, ChatGPT Plus at $20 remains the right tier, and nothing here changes that.
What's worth noticing is the shape.
In the same week, OpenAI removed the text-chat cap for free users and introduced a tier at five times the previous business price. The ladder is being stretched at both ends: the bottom gets more generous, the top gets considerably more expensive, and the middle — where a solopreneur actually lives — stays where it was.
That pattern is worth filing away, because it tends to repeat across this category. Free tiers get better as vendors compete for the entry point; premium tiers climb as vendors chase the accounts that actually fund the business. The practical consequence for a one-person operation is that the pressure to upgrade is mostly manufactured. You are not the customer these price increases are designed for.
The concrete takeaway: when a tool you use announces a big new tier, check whether anything changed at your level before assuming you're being left behind.
